The word “Genesis” means “beginnings” and in this first book of the Bible are found the beginnings of all major doctrines of scripture. Students of scripture need to know this book to understand all other books of the Bible.

Three grand ideas are contained in the first verse of Genesis: God, time and the universe. The rest of the book shows how God dealt with the human race and the chosen race.

Everything except God had a start. Genesis gives the early history of men on this earth, and its teaching is necessary before anyone can understand the rest of the Bible.
