Angels

Today, angels are big business. Despite contemporary skepticism’s vocal rejection of things supernatural, there is an extraordinary fascination with angels in many quarters. They are the subject of best sellers; the talk ofHollywood talk shows; and the source of millions of dollars for the makers of angel artifacts.

Materialism has betrayed us. Religion as such has tranquilized us. Traditional standards of morality have been jettisoned. What’s Left? Angels?

“After all,” the popular line runs, “angels are convenient and so undemanding! When you need one, you can have one! When you’re through, just say goodbye!”

The truth is, it’s not that simple. There is a Deceiver abroad! Faced with this strange current cosmological tripping, where can we find reliable information about angels? When all is said and don, the safest place to look is in the Bible. We would be wise to ask the question Paul asked a long time ago: “What does the scripture say?” (Romans 4:3)

As we turn to the Word of God, three questions come to mind: a) What are angels? b) What do angels do? c) What should be our attitude to them?
